Keeping Tradition

Today on the bus I noticed that the driver was being pretty risky and I didn't feel too safe. First off, he didn't buckle his seat belt and I tried to look past what may seem like a minor detail, but couldn't. Second, while we were driving, he pulled out his blackberry and proceeded to text. Now we were on a straight away but still! You do not text while you are driving and you do not text while you are driving a bus. Driving a bus with one hand is just bad. And finally, while we were on said straight away, he tried to adjust the bandaid on his finger. To do this, he didn't reach across and keep one hand on the steering wheel. Instead, he took both hands off and continued to drive. Despite these issues, I remained calm and said nothing. I just watched the road like a hawk.

Cliff Notes

So on Wednesday night Jaclyn pointed this out to me, but its true. Almost all of the entries on this blog are about Asians or busses.

The Olympics

So yesterday I was watching the women's figure skating long program. I was amazed at not only at the difficulty of the routines these girls were performing, but also their age. Tara Lipinski was only 15 when she won gold for the US a few years back. One of the girls for the US, Rachel Flatt, is only 17, and the announcers were joking about how she had homework to do, due the next day. The other girl for the US was only 16. Now, don't get me wrong here, I absolutely loathe Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus, but they are only 15 and 16 or 17 respectively. And Taylor Swift (who I have absolutely no disdain for) is 20. She's in my graduating class of 2008. All of this just makes me think, "Geez Jaclyn, what are you doing with your life??"

False Advertising

Today on the bus I looked up above the seats and saw an advertisement for BuyBack. Asked "need cash?" I thought, well yes! How'd you know? It continued on to say "Last year BuyBack bought back a total of 2.2 million dollars from students!" Initially I thought that sounded like a pretty good deal. But when I really thought about it, I realized I was extremely wrong. If the total UC Davis population of 31,000 students received $2,200,000 for their books last year, thats a grand total of $71 given back to each student per year! But it gets better, with three quarters a year and lets say four textbooks per quarter, you can sell your $200 book back for $6...an unbeatable price you won't find anywhere in stores. I'm on to you BuyBack, your tricks don't fool me.

On the note of false advertising, Rhode Island isn't an island. What's up with that?

Everybody Loves Me (tribute to Kyle Green) - OneRepublic

Oh my, feels just like I don't try; looks so good I might die. All I know is everybody loves me. Apparently that's my theme song, according to Jaclyn. I'll take it, because, hey, it could have been the song "Dancing Queen" or something like that instead.

Alarm Clocks

How come when ever you sleep in too late, you wake up right when you need to be somewhere? It always happens the same way: you wake up, you look at the clock and realize your class starts in five minutes, or the bus is pulling away from the bus stop at that very moment! So yesterday, I was supposed to catch the 7:09 bus to Davis High School. I slept through my alarm at 6:30, woke up, looked at the clock...7:09. Sometimes alarm clocks just fail.

Minority Report

So as you know, this school is dominated by Asians all around, but especially in science classes. If you ever sit in the back of a big lecture hall, you can really see what I mean. Today in my organic Chemistry Class, we counted a total of 12 blondes. Everyone else had either dark brown or black hair. Out of 200 or so people, this works out to be about 6 percent. This made it really easy to count them actually, cause they pretty much stood out like a sore thumb.
