Hey Stranger...?

Isn't it weird that people often ask strangers to watch their stuff from, well, other strangers. In most cases you need to leave the area for a quick second, and you don't feel like gathering up all of your belongings only to have to take them back out again, or even to have the possibility of losing your spot. Naturally you seem to trust the person sitting near you that you can see, whereas you fear someone unknown to you would hijack your stuff. Maybe it's because when you ask someone to watch your things, you get a visual of a suspect and you can blame someone if there is a robbery, although this wouldn't deter this person from actually stealing your stuff, now that he/she knows that your belongings are vulnerable for the taking. In most cases you return to your stuff untouched and you continue on with your day, but to think that you could have just said, "Hey I'm gonna be gone for a few minutes and totally trusting that you watch over my stuff, and would have no idea that you're a possible criminal with the intent to steal all of my personal belongings, only for me to find out in a few short minutes when I come back and all of my stuff is gone. K thanks!"

  2. HAHA Kyle you know David too well.
Okay so what if two of us went into a lecture hall, both acting like they had no idea who the other one was.. We would sit near each other (like a couple seats apart) and when several people are sitting near us, one asks the other to watch their stuff. He/She leaves to go to the bathroom and the other starts digging through the backpack, takes their wallet, and leaves. I'm wondering if the people in the near vicinity would try to stop the thief (anybody ever play slamwich? STOP THIEF!) or just wait for the other to come back so they could tell them, "Hey, someone stole your wallet. Sorry man."
